ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Tuesday morning saw activity in the gym at the new Wellness Center.

The high school girls basketball team, along with their coach, Jonathan Harshman, was there for a practice run, both to test out the center and because the floor in the school’s south gym is being replaced.

And, no, the center is not being absorbed by the school. The center’s gym is there as a backup, but it’s primary purpose is for the community.

Taylor Horek, the center’s director, started work last week. The center, he said was “getting going” and will definitely be open for the public by June 18 for the grand opening scheduled for Monday, June 18, at 5 p.m.

It’s been more than a year in the making, and it’s finally here. School Superintendent Ken Crawford was at Monday’s City Council meeting with brochures and fliers. He appeared both relieved that the year’s hard work is nearly finished and excited about what has been accomplished.

The Wellness Center will be open Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Fees range from $25 per month and $275 per year for one person to $40 per month and $440 per year for a family.

There’s also a per visit option, punch card and senior discount. An added benefit for members is a key card that allows access after hours.

The gym and the conference room are available for rental.
