ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Brad Tornow had 51 yards on the ground, 50 yards and a touchdown through the air, a 26-yard interception return touchdown and punt return touchdowns of 59 and 84 yards as the Mid-Prairie Fresh/Soph team beat Anamosa 36-12 on Friday.

"He really gave us a spark, multiple times," Coach Derek Yoder said of Tornow. "Obviously the two punt returns were huge."

"At halftime, Coach Lambert told the linebackers to watch for the little swing pass that Anamosa had had success with in the first half. They tried to run it again on the second play of their first drive and Brad was right there for the interception TD.

"Brad has been great for us all year. He's our leading passer and our leading tackler on the year, and he's third on the team in rushing yards. He works really hard and is eager to learn as much as he can."

Tornow’s punt returns gave Mid-Prairie a 14-0 lead after a scoreless first quarter. In the second half, Tornow’s interception return and a one-yard touchdown carry from Grant Boyse put the Golden Hawks ahead 28-6. Then Tornow found Zeb Danner for 33-yards and a 36-6 lead.

Trevor Miller rushed for 57 yards and a two-point conversion. Draven Dempsey had a pair of two point conversion rushes as well. David Murray had seven tackles, including three for loss and a sack as the Mid-Prairie defense held Anamosa to 2-8 on third downs and forced three turnovers.

On Monday, Draven Dempsey rushed for 53 yards and three touchdowns as the Fresh/Soph team defeated Tipton 34-14.

The Golden Hawks finished with 362 total yards to the Tigers 112, and did not allow a third or fourth down conversion in the game.

After two touchdown runs by Dempsey, Chris Miller caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Tornow to give the Golden Hawks a 20-0 lead at the half. Tipton cut into that lead with two 55-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter. Dempsey’s third touchdown gave Mid-Prairie a little breathing room and Mason Hartley’s two yard scoring rush put the nail in the coffin.

Brad Tornow was 6-8 for 145 yard and a touchdown, rushing once for 42 yards and adding a two-point conversion. Nick Craigmile caught two balls for 59 yards. J. Baker had three tackles, including two for loss and a sack.
