ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Washington

The Washington County supervisors voted to cut the county Compensation Board’s recommended 3 percent raise for elected officials to 2.5 percent and to 1.5 percent for the supervisors themselves at their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Chairman Abe Miller noted that there are larger counties that are paying their officials less. However, all agreed that a raise was in order. The reductions from the Compensation Board’s suggested level represented a 70 and 90 percent cut, respectively. The board also approved keeping the chairman’s annual stipend at $1,500, and approved the 2.5 percent level for departmental budgets for non-union employees, which equals the level for the union employees.

Departmental 2018-19 budget work sessions, which are public meetings, start Monday, Jan. 22, and continue through the week. Specific times and locations will be posted.
