During a tour last week, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds lauded Civco for its internship program, which often leads to jobs with the company.

Gov. Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg visited the Kalona company on April 13.

CIVCO offers medical products, which are manufactured in Kalona and which company executives showed to Reynolds and Gregg during the 50-minute tour.

“What a phenomenal company and just the impact (it is) having in the medical industry,” Reynolds said after the tour.

“I love hearing about the growth and the projected continued growth,” she said. “It’s just impressive the innovation we see.

Reynolds quizzed company executives on open positions at Civco and the requirements of each of those jobs.

The company currently has about 10 openings in production and five engineer positions at the Kalona facility, mostly due to a recent acquisition.

“It’s a skill problem, but it’s a people problem, too,” Reynolds said. “We just need more bodies.”

Company President Robin Therme said Civco will have eight to 10 interns from the University of Iowa and Iowa State University this year. Civco also is working with Workplace Learning Connection to give local high school students work experience through programs like job shadowing.
