The city of Wellman is taking steps to address speed issues on Seventh Avenue.

The City Council voted Monday to install a speed bump on Seventh Avenue where it becomes Circle Drive, as well as stop signs at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street.

“There isn’t a day goes by that someone doesn’t go through that stop sign (at Seventh Avenue and Circle Drive),” Councilman Bob Goodrich said.

City Administrator Kelly Litwiller said that the speed bumps are removable and will cost the city more than $300.

City officials have received numerous complaints about speeding in that area.

With school back in session, there is also a safety concern about students from Mid-Prairie West Elementary, which is just to the east of the area.

“I think it’s most dangerous for the kids,” Goodrich said.
