Iowa Mennonite’s postseason run came to an end on Tuesday when they ran into a Lisbon lineup that crushed the ball.

Lisbon defeated Iowa Mennonite 10-2 in the substate final to earn a spot at the state tournament while Iowa Mennonite’s season ends at 16-10. Lisbon, who sports a .423 team batting average, compiled 10 runs on 10 hits during the game.

Iowa Mennonite’s mantra coming into the game was that anything can happen in single elimination baseball, but Lisbon held off a loss again to move to 34-0.

“It’s baseball and anything can happen, so you go out and try your best,” Jacob Boller, who went 2-3 from the plate with a double, said. “It didn’t go how we wanted, but it’s all right though.”

The start of the game was promising for Iowa Mennonite, as Iowa Mennonite put two on base in the first frame. A couple of groundouts and a strikeout ended the inning without any runs scored.

Then the top of the Lisbon lineup came to the plate and smashed the ball. The first four batters got hits including a double from Hagen Waters to give Lisbon a 4-0 lead. Iowa Mennonite coach Danny Hershberger then took a visit to the mound to talk to Blake Bontrager and he rallied for a pair of fly outs and a strikeout to end the inning.
