Three area high schools recently participated at the state dance competition in Des Moines, with one bringing home hardware.

Mid-Prairie brought home a third place trophy for their finish in the Class V Hip Hop category, something the team had worked months toward.

“We started working on these routines over the summer and we practice two to three times per week for two to three hours so we’ve been working on these routines for a long time,” Gretchen Steffen, the Mid-Prairie dance team coach said.

“It is always exciting when you leave state placing, it’s an amazing thing and the girls worked really hard and we’re super proud.”

Mid-Prairie received a division one rating and fifth place finish in the Class VIII pom category.

Steffen said the team had 23 total members with 15 dancing in pom and 18 in hip hop.

“It’s just really cool to see the growth we’ve had over the last few years and it just keeps growing which is exciting to see,” Steffen said.

The Lone Tree dance team received a division one rating and a seventh place finish in the Class I lyrical category, a division I rating and sixth place in the Class I jazz category and a division one rating and ninth place finish in the Class II pom category.

The Highland squad participated in the Class V pom category and received a division two rating and 10th place finish.
