1926 - 2017

David Joseph Fladung, 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept.16, 2017, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following complications of Parkinson’s. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Calling hours will begin 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Thursday followed by a Prayer Service. Private family interment will take place on Saturday at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for St. James Church.

David was born July 21, 1926, at the family farm, rural Wellman, Iowa, the son of John George and Clara Margaret (Greiner) Fladung. He attended elementary school #6 in Seventy-Six Township and Keota High School. He began farming in 1946. On Sept. 8, 1954, David was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Knotek at St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

David was a lifelong resident of Washington County where he was a grain and livestock farmer. He was a charter member of the Keota FFA Chapter, and an Honorary member of the Washington FFA Chapter. David was also a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Washington and was a member of the Knights of Columbus

He is survived by his four sons: Rev. Charles J. Fladung of Sigourney, Jay Fladung of Washington, Kerry Fladung and wife Nanette of Sioux City and Alan Fladung and wife Ranee of Wellman; five grandchildren: Royce Fladung, Roger Fladung and fiancé Kristie Vanston, and Logan Fladung of Sioux City and David D. Fladung and Amelia Fladung of Wellman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Mary in 2016; and five siblings: Marcella Durian, Omar Flander, Dorothy Sisk, Donald Fladung, and Bertha Gretter.
